New Year…New Adventures and Activities!

The start of a new year (and decade!) is a great opportunity to commit to being bold and enjoying a new adventure! And here at Croft Farm & Celtic Cottages we’ve got three exciting activity ideas for you and your family…swimming, walking, and water sports.

Residential Swimming Courses

In 2018 we were delighted to be featured in Telegraph Travel Online in an article titled The 10 Best Holidays For People Who Love Swimming.

We’ve been the ‘residential’ part of the equation with Ian and Cheryl Cross of Swimming Without Stress for fiteen years now and love to see guests becoming happy and confident swimmers in our indoor pool.

Residential swimming courses are held in our indoor heated pool

Cheryl and Ian specialise in using the Alexander Technique in their swimming lessons to improve the quality of the experience in the water for both non-swimmers, and swimmers alike, by preventing unnecessary tension.

The best part is that you don’t have to be a “good swimmer” to still enjoy rewarding results. Swimming students come away from lessons confidently knowing that even if you do nothing the water will support you to allow mindful movement, and that by improving your relationship with water you can move from fear and tension to relaxation and freedom.

When you book a residential swimming course here all your lessons are held in our onsite indoor heated pool.

Lessons are either one-to-one for 45 minutes, or a shared hour for 2 people, which can be for couples or friends (your abilities don’t need to be similar). We recommend 6-8 lessons to get the most from your tuition, and most people stay for five nights, with two lessons a day.

By taking an intensive swimming course, especially with the opportunity to practice in the pool between lessons as well, you can make a great deal of progress in a short space of time.

Better still, you’ll still have plenty of time to enjoy our other onsite facilities and explore the local area of our world-famous Pembrokeshire Coastal National Park and Cardigan Bay.

Which brings us neatly onto…

Walking Adventures

If walking is something you’re looking to get into or do more of, staying at Croft Farm & Celtic Cottages is the perfect way to combine it with a holiday.

The Pembrokeshire Coast Path covers 187 miles from St Dogmaels in the North to Amroth in the South of the County. A regular feature in many Lonely Planet ‘Best of’ lists the coast path never feels overcrowded, and you’re rewarded with a photo-worthy view around every corner.

The variety of terrain and views means every section has its own character, from long sandy Blue Flag beaches to hidden pebbly coves, volcanic headlands, steeply striated cliffs, caves, estuary marshlands and more.

It also means whatever your age or ability we have something you can enjoy.

There are challenging scrambles to get the heart pumping, to leisurely strolls which are family, toddler, pushchair and wheelchair friendly. And the sea will accompany you at every section of your walk.

We’re blessed with a rich diversity of wildlife in this area, so keep your eyes peeled and your binoculars handy! Depending on the time of year, chances are you’ll see the resident Cardigan Bay dolphin population, Porpoises, Seals, Jellyfish, the native Welsh Mountain Ponies, plus a huge array of native and migratory sea and marshland birds.

Finally, if you want more of an action-packed experience still…

Water Sports

Our coast is increasingly being enjoyed as a sporting and adventure destination and this is a great opportunity to try something new on your holiday!

If you fancy an adrenalin-fuelled activity how about Coasteering? You can combine scrambling over rocks, jumping into the sea, and safely enjoying the rough and tumble of the power of the sea. (Image courtesy of Celtic Quest Coasteering)

For speed and skill maybe you’d like to try your hand at surfing or kite-surfing? Or take your time with the more leisurely stand-up paddle-boarding which has become very popular in the last couple of years.

Sea-kayaking offers a great way to explore the coast and coves and quietly get up close to lots of the wildlife in the coastal zone. Who knows what marine life you might spot swimming in the clear green waters below you on a calm day. Keep your eyes peeled for inquisitive seals who like to pop up and see what you’re doing!

With all water sports activities, we recommend you book through qualified providers who have your safety as their top priority whilst also making sure you have lots of fun too! We have some excellent local providers we can recommend should you wish.

As you can see, if you’re thinking about trying a new activity, or having more adventures, we’ve got you covered!

You have the choice of our 10 self-catering cottages for your accommodation, which range in size from sleeping 3 people to 12 people – so whether you’re coming alone, as a couple, or a 3 generation/large group getaway we have something to suit your needs.

Six of our cottages each have luxury garden hot tubs.

Seven of our cottages are dog-friendly, and three are kept pet-free at all times (ideal for allergy sufferers).

We offer 10% off accommodation to all swimming lesson customers staying either 5 or 6 nights, and 15% off a 7 night stay. This discounted rate is valid from September until May. In June and July discounts vary according to the size of your travelling party.
Please note that as a general rule swimming lessons are not taught during the popular school holiday weeks.
