Spring has finally arrived! The new lambs are gamboling round the fields, the birds are busy nest-building and the Easter holidays are nearly upon us – and we’re looking forward to welcoming our guests to Croft Farm & Celtic Cottages. With that in mind we’ve listed a selection of just some of the many varied family-friendly activities and events taking place during the holidays here in West Wales.

To be honest, there is so much going on that this is just a taster – so if you want to know more, don’t hesitate to ask us in the office!

The Welsh Wildlife Centre & Teifi Marsh

Llanerchaeron National Trust Estate

There’s something for all the family at Llanerchaeron, set in the heart of the Aeron Valley this Easter. As well as the farm, walled garden, lake, country house and service courtyard (including dairy, cheese press room, bake-house, smoke-house and laundry room) to explore, their Easter events include :

Castell Henllys

There are lots of family friendly activities and events on at Castell Henllys during the Easter holidays, including Fairy Tale Fun (a fun session for want-to-be fairies and wizards), Story Quest (imaginative story-telling for children), Magnificent Birds Of Prey (with displays from Pembrokeshire Falconry), an Easter Fun Day, and a Photo Safari (using Castell Henllys as inspiration for your photos)

Plus a range of Celtic themed events – with crafts, activities, demonstrations and costumed guided tours, to learn more about life in the Iron Age, and experience what it would have been like to live at that time. The expertly recreated roundhouses and granary, on the original site of the Iron Age foundations are set within 30 acres of beautiful woodland and river meadows in the heart of the National Park – with sculpture trails depicting myths and legends.

Scolton Manor

Scolton Manor on the way to Haverfordwest is hosting a fun-packed fortnight of quizzes, activities and crafts to ensure an Eggcellent Easter holiday!

Over the Easter weekend follow the Easter Egg Trail around the picturesque grounds and work out the clues to win a prize. If you’re looking to get creative the Springtime Crafts are for you! The crafts are available daily. Also Easter quizzes will also be available.

Join in the fun and explore all that Scolton Manor has to offer this Easter – and these activities can be combined with a visit to the main Pembrokeshire County Museum which is located in the traditional Victorian country manor house, surrounded by 60 acres of park and woodland and is completed by an award-winning eco-centre.

 

Pembroke Castle

As well as the excellent permanent displays and exhibitions at the mighty Pembroke Castle there is a selection of events being put on for the Easter holidays, including:

Black Mountains Falconry Day – with falcons, owls, buzzards and hawks, and a fantastic flying demonstrations in the outer ward of the castle with audience participation.

Living History (Landsker Regia Anglorum) – Step back in time to the 11th Century with the Landsker group who will demonstrate life, weaponry and living conditions from the 11th Century, including staged battles.

Living History (Historia Normannis) – Experience the sights, smells and sounds of 12th Century Wales with Historia Normannis. Discover the difference between a Lord and a Baron with a historic fashion show. Experience Norman justice first hand at the shire court, was it really that brutal? Learn about medieval combat at the armoury tent and see our knights and soldiers fight it out in the arena.

Merrymakers Present ‘Keepers of the Castle’ – think Horrible Histories meets Monty Python – As you explore the castle you will meet some colourful characters going about their daily business within the castle walls.  Daft Daf, Stephen the Steward, Peggy Plumstone or maybe gossipy Father Timothy!  You can also join the Merrymakers procession for a performance of the “Keepers of the Castle” show, their energetic, musical and hilarious romp through the castle’s rich history.

Merrymakers Knight School – This is a great, fun event that will give you the chance to become a Castle Knight. Our band of Merrymakers Knight Trainers led by Sir Benfro of Pembroke Castle will take you through some brilliant tasks including dressing up as a Knight or Knightess, marching in the Merrymakers Procession, learning how to act knightly such as swearing allegiance, bowing and curtseying, storming the Castle gates, and learning sword skills.

The Panic Circus – Professor Panic and his travelling band of circus helpers provide a unique hands on circus workshop experience.  His huge collection of circus props are spread out on the lawn and you can just help yourselves. He will teach you to spin plates, juggle, stilt walk and lots more.  There will also be the most amusing  Punch and Judy show you will ever see.

Ghostly Tales at Pembroke Castle – Join our Ghost Finder General, Howard, on an after-hours ghoulish ghost tour around Pembroke Castle, as he tells you a selection of our ghost sightings and poltergeist happenings from our 900 year history of sudden death and disaster. (For age 7 upwards)

Dragon Day – This is a magical day to celebrate the dragons of Wales.  You can meet baby dragons from the Welsh Marches, pose for photos and ask questions of the expert Dragon Handlers. Join the noisy Dragon Parade which will bring the castle to life, then settle down to a fabulous story telling session “Dragon Tales” to hear all about these mythical and magical creatures.

In addition to ALL of these events, there are beaches, mountains and castles to explore, Folly Farm Adventure Park & Zoo, Heatherton World of Activities, boat trips to Skomer Island (from 25th March), dolphin and sea-life spotting boat trips, coasteering, kayaking, horse riding…plus lots more – as well as everything onsite here at Croft Farm & Celtic Cottages for you to enjoy (daily farm animal feeding and egg collecting, the Big Play Barn with Pets’ Corner, adventure playground, soft-play area, heated indoor swimming pool, sauna and gym!). You certainly won’t be short of activities and adventures on your holiday this Easter!
