Walking in Pembrokeshire

pembrokeshire walkingOne of the most popular reasons people give for coming to Pembrokeshire on holiday is ‘the walking’. The Pembrokeshire coastal path is famous across the world and has a reputation for being one of the most picturesque of all the long distance paths in the UK.

Though the standard of the walking in Pembrokeshire is no secret, many of our guests are surprised at the volume of great walks. Many of them keep coming back year after year just to get them done!

The Pembrokeshire Coastal Path

The Pembrokeshire coastal path is one of the most beautiful footpaths in the UK. It covers just over 186 miles and spans the full length of the Pembrokeshire coast.

The path can be enjoyed by anyone. Some people choose to walk it all in one holiday, whereas others take a whole lifetime. The path starts just down the road at St Dogmael’s and finishes at Amroth in Southern Pembrokeshire. If you complete the whole path you will have climbed over 11,500m and crossed approximately 150 stiles. You will probably have a fair few blisters as well.

For those wanting a great day out with the family there are many circular walks which take in the best bits of the coastal path. Another option is to use the regular bus service which runs along the coast.

Preseli Hills

The appeal of the stunning Pembrokeshire coastline often means that people are unaware of the many inland walks that Pembrokeshire has to offer. One of the hidden secrets of the Pembrokeshire national park is the Preseli hills. These stunning mountains have many miles of great walking trails as well as many fascinating historical landmarks.

The most popular trails are ‘The Golden Road’, which runs across the ridge of the mountains, and ‘The Preseli Circle’ which circumnavigates the range. The community bus service, ‘The Preseli Green Dragon’ makes walking in the Preseli’s even easier.
