What’s On In Half Term – October 2016
Crisp leaves falling, pumpkins waiting to be carved, and the smell of wood-burner smoke drifting in the evening air – it can mean only one thing – Autumn has arrived! It also means it’s time for us to share our top picks of what’s on during the October Half Term.
Even though it feels as though we’ve only just shaken the sand out of the summer beach towels, we now find ourselves racing towards the Autumn Half Term, so here’s a handy a summary of our favourite family-friendly events and activities in and around North Pembrokeshire :
The Welsh Wildlife Centre – Teifi Marshes & Cilgerran
This local wildlife centre is always a popular with our guests, and as well as the walks, bird-spotting hides, treasure trail and displays which are open all the time they also have daily activities scheduled for half term, including :
Decorating apple bird feeders, Bat walks, The Pumpkin Quiz Trail, plus crafts and making-sessions galore! (including making Pine Cone Owls, Bat Pegs and Spider Webs, Creepy Clay Creature Modelling, Pumpkin Tea Light Holders, and other Halloween themed craft activities)

Castell Henllys
Castell Henllys is just a few minutes’ drive from us, and is the only Iron Age Village in Britain where the expertly recreated Iron Age Roundhouses have been reconstructed on the exact site where our Celtic ancestors lived 2,000 years ago. In addition to everything available onsite to explore, they also have almost daily events scheduled for the Half Term week, including :
Adventure sessions for would-be heroes and heroines, Fun Days with a Celtic theme, Fun days for aspiring fairies and wizards, Storytelling, Haunted Henllys ghost walks, plus a Star Gazing evening with an astronomical talk and guidance on how to take your own night sky photographs.

Fishguard Autumn Festival
Held between 26th – 29th October this family friendly festival returns again with a host of events taking place celebrating local artisan talent – including food, live music with ‘Songs from The Musicals, arts & crafts at the Artisan Market, the renowned ‘Cawl Crawl Challenge’, plus an afternoon of Family Fun at the Ocean Lab, followed by Fireworks over the bay.

Cardigan Castle
Located right in the heart of Cardigan the Castle invites you to revisit Cardigan’s long and chequered history with their regular displays and exhibitions.
In addition they have several events taking place during Half Term :
The Roald Dahl Celebration – a one man show which forms part of the Roald Dahl 100 celebrations – children will be introduced to Alf, an intriguing character in a unique multicoloured coat, who shares the adventures that happen to him when he starts to read.
Halloween Ghost Tours – discover the many ghostly goings on at Cardigan Castle on one of the evening Ghost Tours!

Small World Theatre
The Small World Theatre has several events on over Half Term week :
The popular FLEat market takes place with an indulgent selection of wares, delicious eats and some real bargains. FLEat is a unique Sunday shopping experience and a fabulous community social event, showcasing local designers, artists, makers and bakers. You can expect clothing, bric-àbrac, crafts and unique pieces of art. Treat yourself to a delicious lunch or take away a selection of cakes. It’s a great way to spend a Sunday.
Greatest Ghost Adventure – Take part in a spooky experiential workshop in one of Cardigan’s oldest maritime buildings where you will spend the day creating creepy costumes, making preposterous props, devising and creating gory scenes that you will later play out to audiences. (11am to 4pm, suitable for ages 6 – 16.)
At 3.30pm you can dare your family and friends to join you for the fright of their lives as they are led through a terrifying maze, then families are invited to join a procession at 4pm across the River Teifi to scare Halloween revellers!

Carew Castle
Carew Castle is set in a stunning location overlooking a 23 acre millpond (the only restored tidal mill in Wales), and the castle itself displays the development from Norman fortification to Elizabethan country house.
They have a number of event on over half term including Ghost Hunts, Fireside Tales, Fabulous Falcons, plus Spooky Halloween Ghost Tours!
