“What a fantastic place this is….You’ve got absolutely everything”
– Iolo Williams, BBC ‘Springwatch’ Presenter
When people think about wildlife in Pembrokeshire they will naturally think of seals, dolphins, and puffins.
Though the Pembrokeshire sea life is one of its major attractions, when it comes to wildlife, there’s so much more to see.
The Teifi Marshes
Just a stone’s throw from our self catering cottages in North Pembrokeshire is the Welsh Wildlife Centre. This great facility sits right on the Teifi Marshes and is one of Pembrokeshire’s many hidden gems.
The wildlife centre is designed to educate, inform and give families a great day out. It includes a wide variety of habitats including the river, ponds, reed beds, wet and dry woodlands and dry meadows. This variety means you can see everything from birds and dragonflies to otters and water buffalo!
The variety of wildlife habitats and the great facilities at the centre mean that it’s a great place to visit throughout the year. There’s always something different to see and, if you do get caught out by a shower, there’s always the Glasshouse Cafe which looks right out across the marshes.
Events at the Centre
One of the best ways to get the most from this great facility is to take part in one of their organised events. The centre organises a mixture of practical and artistic events which are designed for the whole family to enjoy. One of our favourite events is the regular ‘Bat Walk’ which takes place throughout the summer months. The guided walk is designed to help visitors learn more about these misunderstood creatures. The walk will also look at bat habitats and, hopefully, help you spot some for yourself.
As well as the wildlife focused events, the Wildlife Centre also puts on regular productions. For example, in a few weeks there will be a production of ‘The Twits’ which is being organised specifically for families.
To keep up to date with forthcoming events at the Welsh Wildlife Centre, you can visit their website which is updated regularly.
There is no shortage of family activities in Pembrokeshire. There’s so much to do that many of our guest come back year after year!
